Q. What is the CBT?
A. The "Confederation of Businesses and Traders" was formed to protect consumers and to assist members To generate business. We offer membership to tradesmen, businesses and start-ups, providing them with additional recognition. Members benefit from continuous support, advertising and web services leading to better business and more customer leads. We provide numerous unrivalled benefits including FREE WEBSITES with free annual hosting and no setup costs. We assist our members to achieve irrespective of the challenging market conditions.

Q. Why should I join the CBT, What is the value?
A. Studies have proven that 85% of the public would prefer to deal with a business that is associated to a business organisation such as the CBT. In becoming a member of the CBT you are entitled to all the benefits we provide, to display our Logo in Shop windows, Vans, Stationery, your website, etc. Certificates and Membership Cards are supplied for you to produce to clients, all designed to enhance your credibility and reassure your customers. Being a member of the CBT gives you an advantage over your competitors.

Q. I’m Just A One Man Band, Why should I join?
A. A large proportion of our members are hard working self-employed tradesmen. They benefit enormously with our support, and are assisted regarding all regulatory requirements set out by the Health and Safety Executive. We also provide a comprehensive number of web services Free of charge including Free Websites which are placed live on the web to generate new business for members together with all other benefits.

Q. What makes the CBT different from other associations.
A. We are the only organisation that will supply and host websites, annual hosting and initiate debt collection procedures Free Of Charge to members. We will ensure that websites are up and running with no set up charges to start generating business for members. Members with their own websites can benefit from free website reviews and can have their sites optimised to drive customers their way. We also understand that many small and large businesses suffer cash flow difficulties and sometimes go under as a direct result of their customers either paying late or not at all. We give access to free credit control advice and provide excellent support and service to help with your difficulties. Our unique services enable our members to devote their energy into the running of their business.

Q. What is the criteria to enable me to join?
A. We undertake to ensure that business details are verified before they are accepted by the CBT. We therefore see it as important we conduct checks to satisfy the consumer’s expectations. Our checks are conducted in accordance with the most commonly used practises of trade associations within the RMI sector, and retail, leisure and services industries. Q. Can you take care of Debt Collection and Prepare Small Claims?
A. If required we will initiate debt collection procedures for commercial debts and send letters to business debtors at no cost to members. We prepare small claims for the courts in England, Wales and Northern Ireland on behalf of our members.

Q. How much is the Membership Fee and can I spread the cost?
A. There are no upfront fees when an application for membership is made. If an application is rejected or refused again there is nothing to pay. The annual membership fee is a flat rate for all businesses no matter the size of £175 +vat. Applicants can use the Pay Plan option to spread the cost over 7 months. The first payment of £25 + vat is made 21 days after the application for membership is made.

Q. Tell me more about the “Resident Club”
A. Membership is completely Free and open to the public. By joining apart from the benefits of obtaining family websites at low preferential rates, useful Links and advice are provided along with discounts from trade members, the public are also protecting themselves from rogue traders. They request quotations for jobs, which we in turn forward to trade members, requesting that a discounted quotation be sent to the resident club member. This initiative has proven to be a mutually rewarding way for both Trade Members to obtain business and Resident Club members to get work done at reasonable costs.

Q. Should I Recommend the CBT?
A. Yes enable the CBT business community to grow and prosper. If you have friends or relatives in business, the services of the CBT can help them also. You can recommend them to the CBT and they would also be welcomed as a member. Your business would also be rewarded with up to £298 worth of advertising Free when they are accepted as a member. By enlarging our community you in turn enable us to provide even more benefits to members. As referee your name and membership number should be forwarded along with any application.

A. Star Ratings are applied when a member joins the CBT based on the receipt of two references that we request at the time of joining, the duration of membership and feedback from the public. To improve your feedback ensure that you have provided two references and encourage your customers to leave feedback through the link provided on the CBT Business Directory.
